My Collection: Marine 2002 (1979)

This was a game I'd collected in my youth but had either sold or lost - I can't recall and only recently managed to replace (at a very reasonable price). The copy I got was in good condition and had unpunched counters.
This game was quite inspirational at the time as there were not a great deal of science fiction combat simulations around and this certainly provided a more gritty tactical level dealing with command & control, morale, communications etc.

The board was high quality card in three sections which, when placed under a perspex sheet, is just fine for gaming on. You could also alter the terrain by laying on hexagonal craters and rock formations to provide a bit more variation to scenarios.
Yaquinto components were high quality and I liked the rulebook, organisation sheets and quick reference sheet summaries.

The counters were also really nice being quite large a with excellent artwork representing the US and Soviet Forces all rendered in blue and red depending on the nationality.

All in all I'm pleased to have this in my collection again. I don't know when I'll get a chance to play as I've a stack of gaming commitments but someday soon would be nice as it's one of those retro sci-fi games that portrays a possible future history that fired a child's imagination back in the late 70's. Strange to think it's set 16 years in the past!
It got a thumbs up from Space Cat!
