Memoir'44 Sci-Fi Variant: Space Marines

Here was a setup for a Space Marines Universe game between the Terran Union (Orange) and the Azuriach Imperium (Red) using my Science Fiction variant to the excellent Memoir'44 rules.

It was based on a wargame I played a couple of years ago using the Neil Thomas WW2 Rules adapted to this science fiction universe. The Terrans defended a desert research station against a powerful Imperial assault. Same outcome - Terrans held out and repulsed the invaders.
Long live the Union!

One Hour Wargames: Scenario 8 Melee

Here is an ACW game using the One Hour Wargame Rules with Cowan modifications. I've been able to play these games solo with the use of Command Event cards to add an element of variability.
The Confederates were in a strong position on the hill but the scenario panned out with a marginal Union victory and capture of the hill by the end of the scenario.

Command & Colours Napoleonics: Teugen-Hausen 1809

This post shows a Command & Colours Napoleonics scenario using my Risk figures and some counters to denote unit type and leaders. This is a setup taken from Expansion 3: The Austrian Army for Teugen-Hausen in 1809.

I'm getting the Expansion for Xmas so will be able to play the scenarios using the white blocks but I think this looks quite nice for the time being.

BattleLore First Edition: Agincourt 1415

Here is the setup for BattleLore First Edition showing the deployments for the Agincourt scenario. Looks really nice I think.

Another Richard Borg game system to compliment the collection.

Tank on Tank: Scenario 1 Head to Head

Here is the setup for the Tank on Tank game by Lock'n Load Publishing. I used ny Memoir'44 board and hex tiles to represent the map and mounted some scans of the counters. The rules and charts are also available on the web.

I think it looks pretty good. Wargaming on a budget - I can play a £25 game for free without sacrificing too much in production values or aesthetics. Could do with some roads but I don't have a fix for that yet.

Frederick's War: Battle of Mollwitz 1741

Here is a setup for my homemade version of Frederick's War, a game in the Hold the Line System made by Worthington Games. It depicts the first battle of Frederick the Great - Mollwitz, where his General Schwerin saved the day.

Being an owner of the original Hold the Line I can use the mapbaod and hex tiles from that set and mount some counter scans on card to represent the units. They look fine and give a satisfactory representation.

Space Assault: Marine Boarding Action

I've been designing a set of rules to simulate marine boarding actions and small scale skirmishes within complexes or space stations. I decided to modify the excellent Space Hulk Rules and combine an activation system and some additional refinements and action options using the base mechanics.
With my collection of Space Crusade figures I can pit squads against each other using the Space Hulk tiles and Space Crusade game boards. I've created a set of counters and Squad Summary Cards to track individual Marines so that it looks and feels like a unique Board Game.

I had a playtest and it was quite exciting providing some valuable learnings. I didn't have to modify much and I seem to have a nice balance between playability and complexity.
I plan to haul out my 15mm Traveller figures when I can find them in my garage and use them with these rules on my Snapshot deckplans.
Space Cat got into the act as usual!

Rorke's Drift Battle Cry Adaptation

I decided to try out a suggested setup from Board Game Geek which had some variant rules to represent the Zulu War encounter at Rorke's Drift. I plan to get some 1/72 plastic figures to represent the forces involved but in the meantime I used my Risk figures.

For Zulus I substituted my Lord of the Rings Risk models so it really became Orc's Drift instead.

The cat unfortunately interupted play so I postponed the game to another day.

Balaclava 1854: Battle Cry Adaptation

Another chance to try out my Crimean War variant for Battle Cry. This time I used the Balaclava scenario on the Command & Colurs: Napoleonics web page.

It started poorly for the Russian Empire and only got worse! A series of attacks on the left flank were repulsed. The Highlanders and Turkish Infantry acting as a reserve charged out and initiated a general advance culminating in a cavalry clash in the centre with the eventual triumph of the Light Brigade reaching the Russian baseline largely unblemished.

The medal count was 7-0! This was the greatest defeat I've ever solo'd. It didn't feel like a rout as the Russians were fighting tenaciously, however, the superiority of the British units and some excellent card selections were influential in determining the outcome. Quite a contrast to the original historical encounter.

The cat decided to occupy the Turkish trenches!

Battle Cry: American War of Independence Variant

I had finalised my Battle Cry Variant Period rules and summary tables and thought I'd have an AWI game using the scenarios on the Command & Colours: Napoleonic website with my Airfix figures painted in the appropriate red and blue with recently mounted counters and medal tokens.

This was the Bemis Heights scenario. It saw an initial strong British attack eventually repulsed and the dastardly colonials victorious after a successful push in the centre. The rules work great providing a really excellent game that didn't melt the brain cells.

Blenheim 1704: Frederick's War (Hold the Line)

I was experimenting with mixing 6mm figures and some counters I'd downloaded and printed from Boardgame Geek to represent some of the other nationalities in the 18th Century not covered by the Frederick's War: Hold the Line rules system.

A vassal module provided a Blenheim scenario which I setup with counters then added my 6mm Malburian collection - largely unpainted unfortunately - future project!
